Know your batteries

AA 50.5mm × 14.5mm · 1.5V

The world's most popular battery. About the length of your little finger. Works in the vast majority of household devices.

AAA 44.5mm × 10.5mm · 1.5V

Shorter and thinner than AA but the same voltage. Most TV remotes use two of these.

CR2032 20mm diameter × 3.2mm · 3V

A flat coin battery about the size of a 10p piece. The number tells you the size: 20mm wide, 3.2mm thick.

LR44 11.6mm diameter × 5.4mm · 1.5V

A small button cell roughly the size of a shirt button. Also sold as AG13, 357 or A76 - they're all the same battery.

9V 48.5mm × 26.5mm × 17.5mm

The rectangular battery with two snap connectors on top. Essential for smoke alarms - replace yours once a year.
